Mitchell Trubiski plans to sign a two-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The deal is valued at $ 14.25 million and a maximum of $ 27 million, including incentives, a source said. Trubisky says his decision came down to Steeler and the New York Giants.
“It was a great opportunity for me and my family … the best way to get back on the field and try to win the game … you have to go out and earn it,” he told Fowler.
The Steelers have agreed to re-sign Chukuma Okorafor for a three-year, 29.25 million contract, including $ 20.5 million in the first two years, a source told Adam Schaefter. And they are expected to sign a three-year deal with veteran center Mason Cole, a source said.
In Pittsburgh, Trubiski will compete with Mason Rudolph for an early quarterback position as the franchise begins the post-Ben Rothlesburger era. Rothlisberger retired after 18 seasons with the mitchell trubisky pittsburgh steelers in January where he helped the franchise win two Super Bowls and ended his career with the fifth-most passing yard (64,088) in NFL history.
The Steelers also include former first-rounder Dwayne Huskins on their roster, and general manager Kevin Colbert said earlier this month that he hoped to go to training camp with four quarterbacks on the roster.
Far from the starting role for Trubiski, who spent last season as a backup quarterback for the Buffalo Bills. Quarterback coach Ken Dorsey and attacking coordinator Brian Double, who is now learning from the New York Giants head coach, accepted a one-year, $ 2.5 million contract to play behind starter Josh Allen.
While his only playing time came once games were out of reach, Trubisky, the former starter for the Chicago Bears, got an opportunity to start fresh in a new environment.
“Going to Buffalo really opened my eyes,” Trubisky told Fowler in February. “… [Being] in Buffalo and [having] a different way of doing things, you learn what’s possible. It helped me get back to instinctual football and using my talents rather than overthinking.”
Trubiski, the second overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, has started 50 games in his four seasons with the Bears, ending with a 29-21 record. He has passed 64.1% of his career from 64 touchdowns with 38 interceptions. It also has 1,081 carrier racing yards and nine racing TDs.
Trubiski, 27, had an up-and-down career with the Bears. He made the Pro Bowl in 2018 and was then benched by then-coach Matt Nagy in 2020 after failing to meet high expectations.
He had success in the Bills ’Precision Game against the Bears in 2021, finishing 221 yards and 20-for-28 for a touchdown.
Steelers reportedly sign Mitchell Trubisky to be Ben Roethlisberger’s replacement
The Pittsburgh Steelers have replaced their Ben Rothlisberger. The team signed former Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubiski to a two-year deal on Monday, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garaflo.
Trubiski, who spent the first four seasons of his career with the Bears, spent 2021 backing Josh Allen in the Buffalo Bills. Mitchell Trubiski – who was selected by the Bears to pick 2nd overall in the 2017 NFL Draft – made a promising start in Chicago. He threw 24 touchdowns against 12 hurdles in his first season as a team starter, making his first and only Pro Bowl appearance.
Mitchell Trubiski did not show much growth after that season. He dropped just 17 touchdowns in 2019 and was the bench for Nick Foles in 2020. After the 2020 season, Trubiski left the Bears as a free agent and joined Bill on a one-year contract. He threw eight passes with Buffalo last season.
Mitchell Trubiski wants to keep the Chicago struggle in the past.
Trubiski’s tenure in Chicago ended badly, but his star rose one season in Buffalo. Trubiski received positive signals from Bill’s coaches and front-office members, who hoped that in 2022 Trubiski would have a better chance with another team.
None of this guarantees that Trubisky will become a Pittsburgh star. It is possible that he looks like the same guy who was on the bench in 2020. However, Trubiski has improved over the years away from Chicago, and there is some hope that his fight with the Bears was not his only fault.
He is, at least, an interesting short-term starter. Best of all, Trubiski rediscovered some of the skills that made him No. 2 overall and marked the beginning of a productive second performance of his NFL career.
