Lysiosis is a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, weakens their immune systems, and affects pregnant women and their newborns. It sometimes causes fever, muscle aches, headaches, neck, confusion, loss of balance and cramps before diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms.

In pregnant women, the infection can lead to a miscarriage, stillbirth, premature birth, or a life-threatening infection in the newborn. Serious and sometimes fatal infections also occur in older adults and people with a weakened immune system.
